Social Media Results: WEAC's Online Success by the Numbers

A couple weeks ago, I wrote an article about an organization (WEAC) that was setting a good example on social media. A few days later, WEAC posted their own blog article detailing the amazing results of their recent social media presence: "Wisconsin collective bargaining crisis causes social media explosion" by Bill Hurley.

For those of you that like to see results "by the numbers" - I have summarized them here.

Facebook:

  • social media resultsIn three weeks the WEAC Facebook page went from 1,500 fans to more than 10,000 fans.
  • They had over 24,000 "likes" and comments on their page in two weeks - a 60,778% increase over the same period last month.

Twitter:

  • WEAC's twitter followers have grown from a few hundred to over 3,000.
  • According to Hurley, "...the number of tweets, retweets and other engagements have skyrocketed."

Web Site:

  • The number of visitors to www.weac.org and comments on their articles has increased 800% in two weeks.

In his article Hurley writes this: "What does that tell us? It tells us you care very deeply about this fight for your rights. It tells us you want to talk about it. It tells us you are hungry for information, and anxious to come together for a cause. It tells us you have recognized and are using the power of social media to its fullest. And it tells us that you are organized."

What does that tell me? WEAC understands what their audience wants from them. And they have been very effective at meeting their visitors' needs through their online presence.
